Our Aims
The playgroup has a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Our aims are:

Starting Playgroup
When your child starts playgroup it is an important time for both of you. You are always welcome to come and chat to us.
For ease of script, we have used the gender ‘she’, but this does not denote any sexism in the Playgroup.
A happy introduction to playgroup is very important, and when we offer your child a place, we also offer them the opportunity to visit the Playgroup. When your child first starts, we have found from experience that staying only prolongs the ‘agony’ of parting. We have found the best policy is to say good-bye and go home – with the emphasis on home – so that we may contact you quickly if necessary.
However, if you feel she really needs you to stay for a while, you are very welcome to join in the playgroup activities. having you there for a while to give her confidence in her new surroundings, enable her to establish contact with other children and adults, and she will then be happy to let you go home and leave her at playgroup. If she can settle gently and happily into the playgroup, she will gradually grow into a confident and independent child.
We try to ensure that the sessions start promptly at 9am, so please wait in the Reception Area until we open the door. We would also like to encourage you to be on time at the end of the session. To be the last child waiting to be collected can be quite traumatic for a two year old!
Our normal format is to begin the session by allowing the children to involve themselves in the activities of their choice for the first hour. Outside play, weather permitting is available throughout the session. Drinks, fruit and a small snack are available all morning for those children who want them. At mid-morning we have a sing-song involving all the children and staff. There is then a further session of free play and we round off the session with story time.
