About Us

Highburton Playgroup is a friendly pre school setting registered with OFSTED with 30 children for full day care, open term time only. Highburton Playgroup was registered in 1996 and is managed by a voluntary committee of parents. The playgroup has been rated as “OUTSTANDING” by OFSTED since 2008, the latest inspection being in July 2022.

We operate from a local, community-run village hall in the Highburton area of Huddersfield (HD8). Children are cared for in a large open plan room and an adjacent smaller room located on the ground floor of the village hall. The building is accessible by stairs or a ramp. All children share access to a secure enclosed outdoor play area with sensory garden. Children attend from the local community and surrounding areas.

What we do!

Language/Literacy

We encourage mark making with paints and crayons. Story time is in our book corner twice a day.

Maths/Science

Children are encouraged to explore and experiment through our exciting themes and activities. 

Art/Music

Being creative helps children express themselves – painting, junk modelling, singing and more.

Outdoor Play

We have a wonderful outdoor play area, and play in all weathers! We also have a sensory garden.

What Our Families Say

Our daughter's experience at Highburton has been 100% positive. Over the last year, she has developed socially, psychologically, and intellectually. She loves going to playgroup and has only good things to say about it. We're really pleased that we decided to send her.

This is our third child to attend the setting, I am very happy with the staff and the setting. He loves playgroup and is disappointed on the days he doesn't attend.

Starting playgroup was a big transition for our daughter having not taken to nursery in 2024. We feel that she has settled relatively quickly for her and the warmth and care shown by the staff really put us at ease. After half term she was jumping with joy heading out of the door on her way to playgroup.

I can't think of a better start for my girls than Highburton Playgroup. From the day they started, they've been so well looked after in such a lovely environment.

What a BRILLIANT playgroup. All the staff genuinely care about the children. Rising 5’s is a fantastic idea to get them ready for school. 

Lovely playgroup with wonderful staff... The staff go out of their way to make the atmosphere a home away from home and I want to thank them for making it a wonderful experience.
